Three-phase
transformersare used to change values of voltages in three-phase power
distribution systems. While it is possible to bundle single-phase
transformers together for using in three-phase power distributions, dedicated three-phase transformers are built
specifically for those tasks.
The Advantages of 3-Phase Transformers
There are several advantages to using three-phase transformers, including the
following:
1. Three-phase transformers use less
material, weigh less, and are more compact than single-phase
bundles.
2. Three-phase transformers increase
reliability.
3. Three-phase electricity powers large
industrial equipment more efficiently than single-phase electricity.
4. Three-phase power can be transmitted over
long distances with smaller conductor size.
How 3-Phase Converters Work
Three-phase transformers are constructed by winding three single-phase transformers on a single
core, which is then put into an enclosure filled with dielectric oil.
Because the dielectric oil does not conduct electric current, it provides insulation
between the winding and the enclosure. The dielectric oil also acts as a coolant, and helps prevent moisture that
can deteriorate the winding insulation.
There are more than 150
manufacturers and distributors of 3-phase transformers, many of which will custom build according to your
specifications.
